William James (Bill) Immel was born in Charles City, Iowa on October 1, 1935, a son of Wilbur J. and Hazel (Meyer) Immel. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1953. He was a co-op student at the Charles City Press his Senior year and continued working there after his graduation. In 1954, after his brother Jack graduated, they and two of their buddies joined the United States Air Force.
Bill enjoyed golf, reading, and photography of the wildlife in the woods and water around their home and he and Loretta enjoyed traveling. On November 30, 2013, his wife of 53 years, Loretta, passed away at their home in Painted Rocks.
On Saturday, March 9, 2019, Bill passed away at Accura Healthcare in Knoxville at the age of 83 years. He is survived by his children: Lorna Immel, Lisa Immel, and William (Jay) Immel all of Knoxville. He also leaves his sister, Laurel Jean and her husband, Dennis Gifford of Keota, Iowa, and brothers: John W. Immel and his wife, Muriel, of Bettendorf, Iowa and Richard L. Immel and his wife, Vivian, of Charles City, Iowa. Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; his parents, Wilbur and Hazel Immel; his grandparents: William and Laurel (Stevens) Immel, William and Maggie (Timmons) Meyer; his brother, Raymond A. Immel; and his parents-in-law, Wesley F.Jebe, Sr. and Mabel (Jurgens) Jebe.
